WHO MADE IT?, PART 1 – IN THE BEGINNING

“Who Made It?”, words and music by Paul Hayden

GENESIS 1.1: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (ESV)

When I introduced this song a few months ago, I pointed out that it is a parable. I didn’t actually find a watch out on a hiking trip. The whole idea probably seems a little silly. After all, no one would find a watch in such circumstances and think for a minute that it had made itself. That would be ridiculous. No person would say, “Wow! Look what evolved right here.”

But even though the song might seem a little goofy, it has very serious intent. The first verse in the Bible set forth above calls out to everyone and puts us all on notice that the heavens and the earth did not create themselves. This is an affirmation and comfort to those who believe in God. This verse confronts those who don’t believe in God the Creator.

I am no scientist. Nor do I handle the sciences very well. To pretend otherwise would be laughable. But I have interfaced to some degree with the sciences, and I have had many good friends through the years who truly are excellent earth scientists.

I have taken in a wide variety of scientific input in simplified forms and have reached conclusions that I would like to communicate regarding the creation of the universe, and the God of the Bible as the Creator and Designer. The debate about old earth/young earth will not be a part of this discussion. But I will include my academic exposure to the geologic sciences in the discussion.
