PSALM 19.1: THE heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. (NASB)
I have read about, and had it explained to me, that Doppler light technology has shown that nearly all of the galaxies outside our Milky Way Galaxy are moving away from us. A very few galaxies like the Andromeda Galaxy are moving towards us. This speaks that matter is not eternal, because if it was, all of these galaxies would have moved infinitely away from us and we would be alone. Likewise, Andromeda would have crashed into us.
And even if I try to construct a narrative that says matter is eternal, but the expansion of the universe didn’t start until 14 billion years ago, that won’t work for me. Because whatever were the circumstances and “forces” working in and on matter to produce the expansion, they would have done so infinitely in the past and it would have produced an infinite expansion anyway.
So matter had to have a point of beginning. And this being the case, it had to come forth from nothing.
In the verse above, I think that one of the ways the heavens are declaring the glory of God is by this Doppler light technology. The scientists call it the “red shift”, and so as this red shift looks back at us from the heavens, it is telling us that the universe came into being at a moment in time, out of nothing.
