John 4.21-22:
Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. (22) You worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.” (ESV)
Jesus Christ of the New Testament is descended from Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and David and many others, all of whom are Jewish. This fact is what makes the statement of Jesus that “salvation is from the Jews” true and relevant. The Gospel of the New Testament is open for all who will accept it, and the reality is that Jesus, the Messiah, is descended from the historical succession of Jewish ancestors listed in Matthew 1.1-16.
There are no alternative interpretations or definitions of who Jesus Christ of the New Testament actually is. He is the Messiah promised and prophesied in the Old Testament, and during his time on earth he was more than simply a prophet or a wise teacher. He was born of the Holy Spirit through the Virgin Mary. Completely God. Completely human. Jesus was born as a Jewish baby and therefore it is true, “salvation is from the Jews.” (ESV)
