JESUS KNOWS OUR NAMES, PART 5A, THE ADVANCE OF THE GOSPEL

“Jesus Knows Our Names”, words and music by Paul Hayden

Matthew 24.14:
And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (ESV)

The verse above communicates to us that God cares about every person on earth. He is at work in the lives of Christians inspiring them to take the message of the gospel to every place on the planet. And this is an ongoing process. There have been times of great emphasis of missionaries going to nations far away from where they lived, and even to individual tribes of people within nations. Names like William and Dorothy Carey, Adoniram and Ann Judson, and Jim and Elisabeth Elliot bring to mind hardships endured, sacrifices made, and sometimes lives given.

And in these examples and all the others, God is the One leading and inspiring the efforts. The verse above gives assurance that God will see to it that before the end of the age, all nations will receive the gospel message. The advance of the gospel is the advance of light into darkness, bringing to mind the verse of Matthew 4.16 saying, “the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.” (ESV)
