MATTHEW 7.7-8: “Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (8) For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” (ESV)
The verses above reveal to us a part of the foundation of the teaching of Jesus regarding prayer. He unifies three ideas into a singular understanding of the action of prayer. Ask. Seek. Knock. Namely, pursue through prayer to God the Father for the things we need.
As originally written in the Greek language, these three verbs in verse 7 are known as continuous action verb forms. They are imperative verbs and these particular forms signal that our approach to prayer is such that we are to pray without ceasing, until the prayer request is resolved. And likewise the promise of successful prayer set forth in verse 8 is to the person who engages in asking, seeking, and knocking on a continual basis.
So we never give up. In this way we demonstrate that we truly believe God is the One who will provide the right outcome to our needs in prayer, in accordance with His will from His heavenly perspective.
And so it is with this COVID-19 pandemic. We pray without ceasing until this virus is gone. And so I am asking everyone to stay active in prayer, asking God to rid the world of this virus.
