Chapters 13 through 17 in the Gospel of John record events that took place in the upper room where Jesus observed the Passover with his disciples just prior to his arrest and death on the cross. This song imagines what took place in the upper room from the vantage point of John. John doesn’t come right out and say it, but he is the one who was most likely closest to Jesus for much of this time in the upper room. John makes reference to this in John 21.20-25.
