PARADISE, PART 3, THE WORTHY LAMB

“Paradise”, words and music by Paul Hayden

Revelation 5.11-12:
Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, (12) saying with a loud voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom
and might
and honor and glory and blessing!” (ESV)

These verses are a part of the vision the Apostle John received late in his life when he was on the island of Patmos. The setting of this part of the vision in chapter five is God’s throne room. In the vision God is sitting on His throne and holding a most holy document that is sealed up and no one in heaven or on earth is able to open. No one is found to be worthy.

But as this vision continues Jesus becomes part of the vision in that He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David. He can open this document, which is in the form of a scroll. Jesus is the Worthy Lamb. John the Baptist, in the beginning of the unfolding of the Gospel recorded in John 1.29, called Jesus, “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (ESV)

Jesus is referred to as a lamb because He died on the cross as a sacrifice to pay the penalty for sin. Your sin. My sin. The death of Jesus on the cross once for all satisfied the requirements for the payment for sin as required in the Law in the Old Testament. To receive the forgiveness of sin the sacrifice of Jesus provides, a person must put his or her faith in Jesus Christ.
